As an agency with diverse roles and responsibilities, the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) employs around 1900 staff as permanent staffers, contractors, casual and seasonal workers and trainees in cities and towns as well as in some of the most remote areas of the State. In fact, DEC is among the most decentralised State Government agencies with approximately three-quarters of its workforce employed in country areas.
