People who carry out fauna surveys are required to hold a Regulation 17 Licence to Take Fauna For Scientific Purposes, under the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950. As a condition of the licence, the licensee is required to submit a return detailing the species and numbers that were captured or sighted. The Fauna Survey Database application captures these returns in an electronic format. Click here to access Fauna Survey Database at http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/fauna_returns. The Fauna Survey Database has limited search and download capabilities for searching of other submitted returns. However, Naturemap has records from multiple sources, including fauna surveys, and is a powerful search tool. Click here to access Naturemap at http://naturemap.dec.wa.gov.au.
