Animals

Western Australia is home to:

  • 141 of Australia's 207 mammal species, 25 of which are unique to WA
  • 439 reptile species, 187 of which are unique to WA
  • more than 1600 fish species, and
  • hundreds of thousands of invertebrate species.

Whether you live in rural or remote areas of Western Australia, or in our growing cities and towns, you will come in contact with native animals. This section of our website has information to help you understand the benefits of our local fauna, how to care for reptiles as pets, beekeeping information, and how to manage those species that may cause problems.
