Lotterywest grants for cadet units

Lotterywest provides annual grants to Cadet Units towards the cost of minor capital works and/or equipment for groups who have open enrolments and encourage broad community involvement in their activities, particularly for people who face barriers to participation.

Camp experiences a just reward

DEC’s Bush Ranger Units have conducted reward camp experiences in Perup and Shark Bay, providing cadets with the unique opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge while working in the field alongside DEC staff.

Senior Technical Officer’s Bruce Ward and Graeme Liddelow accompanied six cadets and three instructors from Rossmoyne Senior High School in the monitoring of fauna throughout Perup Forest Ecology Centre.

Instructors navigate their way through WA Bush Rangers Conference

Forty-one instructors representing 26 high schools attended the recent Bush Rangers WA annual conference held at Point Walter Recreation and Conference Centre.

The participants enjoyed three days of workshops and activities, kick-started with a dinner attended by Strategic Development and Corporate Affairs Director Ron Kawalilak who presented certificates to the new instructors in attendance.

Tammar wallabies return to Kalbarri National Park

Work has begun to re-establish a population of tammar wallabies at Kalbarri National Park in Western Australia's Mid-West region.

Environment Minister Donna Faragher said up to 80 tammar wallabies would be translocated from Tutanning Nature Reserve near Pingelly and from a University of Western Australia research colony, as part of efforts to protect WA's medium-sized mammals.

Awards for inclusive cadets

The Albany and Geographe Bush Rangers WA units have won the Secondary Schools Section in the Count Us In Awards, presented on the International Day of People with Disability, 3 December 2009.

The Count Us In Awards showcase initiatives that strengthen opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in community life and celebrate efforts at fostering an equitable community for everyone.
