Tracks and trails
Western Australia has a world-class tracks and trails system that enables people to enjoy its natural areas on foot, on bike or with a snorkel and mask.
Some tracks and trails traverse the scenic hills east of Perth, others meander along the coast; some explore the beauty beneath the sea and others dwarf their visitors with their giant trees on the earth's surface. Some are designed to regularly pass through towns, while others are designed to make its user feel like they're on an adventure in remoteness. The Department of Environment and Conservation manages and maintains many tracks and trails through the State, some in partnership with other friends groups, local shires, other government departments. Many have visitor facilities, including picnic and barbecue areas, toilets, camping areas, trail markers and even huts along the Bibbulmun Track. Some of the State's most popular tracks and trails, which are featured in this section, are:
Healthy Parks, Healthy People, a DEC initiative, encourages people to get out and enjoy themselves in parks by promoting the physical, mental and social health benefits of spending time in nature.
