DEC Science Division's Conservation library is an amalgamation of the three collections formerly based at Woodvale (wildlife), Kensington (forestry) and the WA Herbarium (botanical).

Access to general public and students The Conservation Library is accessible for public access Mon-Fri 8.30-4.30. Direct borrowing is only available through the Inter-Library loan system, which means material can be borrowed via other libraries, i.e. public or university library. The library has a photocopier which may be used for copying, with a charge of 25 cents per A4 sheet. Users of the photocopier are reminded that breaches of the Copyright Act are criminal offences. The library collection comprises materials on the environment, ecology, conservation, botany, forestry, wildlife, national parks and nature reserves. Besides books and journals there are coloured slides pertaining to forestry (not yet catalogued), historical photographs, microfiche, original illustrations, maps, coloured slides of native plants and an extensive collection of journal articles and reprints. The Departmental Archives contain a comprehensive range of materials (books, journals, reports, reprints, videos, photos, maps, aerial photos etc.) produced by Departmental officers or produced for the Department and its departmental predecessors (eg, CALM, Forests Department) which are retained permanently.
