One of the main aims of Nearer to Nature is to provide opportunities for the public to interact positively with environments close to their homes in suburban Perth. There are a variety of environments to choose from, including forest, bushland, wetland, river, beach and marine!

The program focuses on land and waters managed by the Department of Environment and Conservation, including metropolitan Perth's fabulous Regional Parks and Marine Parks.

Nearer to Nature is based at the Perth Hills Centre, and there are many excellent facilities available to the public.

Nearby John Forrest National Park is Perth's oldest national park, containing fantastic native forest and cultural heritage. The Margaret Forrest Centre is a fully restored heritage building, perfect for activities, talks, meetings or conferences, located near the main car park.

Additionally, Nearer to Nature can develop partnerships with community organisations. One such partnership currently in operation is with the City of Stirling. Nearer to Nature activities are currently a regular feature at the Henderson Environmental Centre in Star Swamp, North Beach.
