What is CleanRun?

CleanRun - Let's drive down emissions is a Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) program aimed at improving air quality in Western Australia by reducing vehicle emissions.

The program, funded in part by the Australian Government Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA), is the key initiative for the National Environment Protection (Diesel Vehicle Emissions) Measure (Diesel NEPM) implementation in Western Australia.

The CleanRun program consists of a range of targeted initiatives to reduce the impact of motor vehicle emissions (with a focus on diesel) on the Perth airshed. CleanRun builds on initiatives already being undertaken under the Perth Air Quality Management Plan, to ensure that clean air is achieved and maintained throughout the Perth metropolitan region.

The program commenced in 2005 and has been developed and implemented through five components

These components will work together to improve air quality by establishing current vehicle emission levels in Perth, looking specifically at the causes of vehicle emissions and by developing various methods through which these emissions can be reduced. An outline of each of the components can be viewed by clicking on the links in the "Article Index" menu, above and right. For the latest news on the CleanRun program, read the CleanRun Update available on the links below.

New initiatives

The CleanRun program has progressed from the vehicle emissions testing and community education components of the program including our new program, CleanRun EcoDrive.
Ecodriving incorporates a number of safer, smarter driving techniques that maximise fuel economy by operating the engine as efficiently as possible.
