Roadside Conservation Committee
To coordinate and promote the conservation and effective management of rail and roadside vegetation for the benefit of the environment and the people of Western Australia.
The original Road Verge Conservation Committee, which operated between 1968 and 1983, was formed in response to the community’s recognition of the importance of roadside vegetation. The Committee was reformed as the current Roadside Conservation Committee (RCC ) in 1985 with its members being appointed by the Minister for the Environment, and the Committee reporting to the Minister. Funding for a full-time executive officer is provided by the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) and Main Roads Western Australia. The RCC executive is hosted by DEC.
The RCC’s principal activities are to:
- Publish material providing advice and guidance relevant to the management of roadside vegetation (see list below);
- Provide specific advice to road managers and the public;
- Coordinate relevant training for road managers and their staff;
- Coordinate inter-agency actions;
- Coordinate the Flora Road program; and
- Producing maps of roadside vegetation conservation values.
