Introduction:
Esperance Lakes Nature Reserves cover 3,384 ha and includes the Warden, Woody, Mullet, Shark and Pink lakes, and provide opportunities for a range of recreational activities such as sightseeing, bushwalking, picnicking, sailboarding, canoeing and birdwatching close to the Esperance townsite.
At least 59 waterbird species have been recorded and nine of these are known to breed in the reserves.
Parts of the reserves are listed as wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention and protected at least 17 species of waterbird cited in migratory bird agreements between Australia and Japan and China.
