MPRA Policy Development

Print

An important part of the MPRA’s statutory function as outlined in s26B of the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984 is to develop policies -

s26B

  1. to preserve the natural marine and estuarine environments of the State;
  2. to provide facilities for the enjoyment of those environments by the community;
  3. to promote appreciation of marine and estuarine flora and fauna and natural marine and estuarine environments; and
  4. to achieve or promote the objectives referred to in section 56 (1)(da), (db) and (e).

Policies are needed to provide clear but flexible guidelines for both operational and strategic matters.  These policies are developed with appropriate consultation with the relevant stakeholders.  Due to the number of areas where policies are currently required, the MPRA has developed a prioritised and achievable annual work program.
