Central West Coast Schools Program
The Marine Community Monitoring Program participated in the department's Central West Coast Schools Program. The aim of the program was to visit schools in the region and promote the wonders of the marine waters of the Central West Coast, informing students and teachers about the marine plants and animals that inhabit their backyard. Schools were approached to participate in the program and over this time a total of 36 presentations were given to over 800 students. The program included presentations showing the high diversity of marine plants and animals in the region and a short video demonstrating how scientists monitor the marine environment using SCUBA equipment and standard monitoring methods. Some classes also received funky fridge magnets promoting the need for community involvement in monitoring Jurien Bay Marine Park. The students were also told about the Marine Community Monitoring Program and ways in which they can participate in various activities. Teachers' comments
