The Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) has opened
summer firewood collection areas to the east and southeast of Perth.
CALM Nature Conservation Officer, Dennis McDonald, said the purchase of
a summer firewood permit would allow collection at three designated
collection areas – south of Brookton Highway, east of Jarrahdale
and east of Dwellingup.
“Maps are provided with the
permit, along with all the information required about collecting
firewood in a responsible manner and contributing to a sustainable
collection program,” he said.
“Community support
for the collection permit guidelines is vital to ensure the
forest's biodiversity is not adversely impacted by large numbers
of people collecting firewood.
“The most critical issue
described in the permit is the need for people to stay on established
tracks and to avoid driving vehicles into the forest.”
Firewood permits are available for $7.70 from local CALM offices and nominated outlets.
Nominated outlets are open out of normal office hours, which enables
people to obtain a permit at more convenient times, such as on weekends.
For information about location of nominated outlets selling firewood permits, contact 9295 1955 during office hours.
