Links with industry

The department has established pilot partnerships with Australian industry and agricultural land owners to explore the feasibility and management of new plantations for carbon sequestration in Western Australia. BP and WAPET have signed agreements with the department, and 3,000 hectares of trees were established during the winter of 1999.

BP Refinery

In the BP project, plantation effort is to be concentrated in the Lake Toolibin catchment, an important wetland for biological conservation. The WAPET project will have a strong focus in the Moora area, which has recently been impacted by destructive floods.
