PRESCRIBED BURN OPERATIONS

DEC conducts a program of prescribed burning operations during spring and autumn each year. Prescribed burning operations are undertaken for a variety of reasons including property protection, fuel reduction and biodiversity management.

These burns are carefully planned, however they may cause some disruption to users. Where prescribed burning operations impact on the Trail, temporary diversions will be put in place, including temporary campsites where necessary. Prescribed burning operations are dependant on appropriate weather conditions and as such, dates for operations are not available in advance.

The following sections of Track may be affected by prescribed burning operations during sprin/summer 2009-10. For your safety, follow onsite signage and directions from DEC staff.

Recent inspection has shown much of the Trail signage between Willowdale Road (Map 3a) and Collie has been removed or destroyed. Trail users should take extra care in this section.

ROAD WORKS - Mornington Road - Map 3b

Mornington Road will be closed to vehicles from Zephyr Road to Gastaldo Road until January 2010.  The Trail will remain open - riders should be aware of road working operations.

TEMPORARY TRAIL REALIGNMENT - north of Yarri campsite- Map 3b

The Forest Products Commission is currently undertaking timber harvesting north of Yarri campsite between the power line and Eight Mile Form (Map 3b).

For the safety of cyclists, the Trail will be temporarily realigned. The realignment is 5km long and will be marked using the standard Munda Biddi markers. Signage will be placed at either end of the realignment.

Groups on the Trail

Groups on the Trail

  • Any group with 8 or more members is requested to submit a 'Notification of Intent' form to DEC's Recreation and Trails Unit four weeks prior to the expedition. (Forms can be obtained by contacting the Recreation and Trails Unit on 08 9334 0265, emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or downloading the pdf link below. This can be printed and faxed to 08 9334 0100.)
  • Group size should be set at a maximum number of 17 participants, including leaders and all members should carry tents. This number has been set to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the trail, campsites, facilities and the surrounding environment.
  • Campsites on the Munda Biddi Trail cannot be booked. Therefore, the Notification of Intent form is not a booking system. However, the information is important to help manage and record group usage and to inform other riders to assist their planning. The Recreation and Trails Unit thank all the groups who send in notification forms, it is very much appreciated.
